web buttons date back to the beginning of the indie web... or at least the 90's. originally, these 88x31 buttons were used to advertise one's site, and that remains their primary usage. however today they are used to showcase a variety of things such as one's interests.
what counts as a button in the modern day can be a bit broad, but i consider anything roughly in that 88x31 range to be a button.
