.... what is it?

Toontown: Online was a virtual world created by Disney Interactive and Schell Games in 2001 (although the real opening date was June 5th, 2003). The idea was simple: you are a "toon," a colorful, fun-loving, anthropomorphic animal who lives in Toontown. You have to fight against these beings known as "cogs," stern businessmen who hate fun and all the things toons stand for.

The game ran for 10 years, which is incredibly impressive for kids virtual world standards. On September 19th, 2013, the game would officially be closed for good alongside some of Disney's other virtual worlds like Pixie Hollow and Virtual Magic Kingdom.

Mere days after, however, it was announced that a revival project would be created; preserving Toontown: Online for old and new players alike. This would come to be known as Toontown: Rewritten. From then on, more and more fan servers started popping up, each with their own take on the Toontown: Online formula.

Today, these fan servers are what keep the Toontown experience alive. You can even go play them right now! Which you totally should but you should ALSO totally look through this page first.

My History with Toontown

I started playing Toontown: Online around 2012-2013. This was in the later years of its life which were... tumultuous to put it lightly. I, however, didn't really notice (or care). I don't remember what name I chose, but I remember making a lot of different toons. Some cats, dogs, mice, stuff like that. I mostly just liked to talk with other people and run around in parties, fishing, trolley, fun stuff like that. I used to be terrified of the cogs, so I never did the main taskline. I never had a membership, but i remember running around the playgrounds so I likely played until the last month. One day the game stopped working and that was that.

I had heard whispers about Toontown: Rewritten, but never ended up getting into it. I was far more concerned with my number one at the time: Animal Jam. It wasn't until 2023 that I started seeing Toontown: Corporate Clash floating around. I didn't think much of it until a friend of mine showed me some pictures of the cog designs (I think it was Rainmaker, High Roller, Duck Shuffler, and Mouthpiece), which then convinced me to play. It was a post-Artfight summer, and I was in a bit of a slump. Figuring I could spend some time on a fun little game, I decided to give it a shot.

The horrors.

I fell head over heels with the game, I even dragged one of my close friends on with me. There isn't even much else to say, I just adored the game. It was fun, and I loved learning about little details in battle. I especially adored the managers, the spin they put on the game both gameplay-wise and lore-wise really impressed me.

Most importantly though, the game inspired me to just... have fun again. Have fun drawing, have fun making characters, have fun playing games. For the longest time I was really struggling to figure out what I liked about my, you know, main hobby. It was only through Toontown did I really accept the sillier (dare I say toonier) side of me, and just let myself loose. Not to mention I became more upfront about my interests with friends and other people.

I think I can say with confidence that Toontown greatly improved my life :]

My Toons In Game

these are my toons in game. while i dont play as much as i used to (although i really should) feel free to say hi if you see me around :]

Rampire Byte

Laff: 121, Toonupless

my very first corpclash toon and also the one i play the most. i am the only (active) member of this club i was drafted into when i started playing.

Little Ruby Featherflap

Laff: 22, (Planned to be) Dropless

made when turkeys were a limited time species, immediately after making her they became free for everyone. she ended up sticking around as a way for me to re-experience the (current) storyline... since i was a dialogue skipper. oops.

Why this one ^^^^ is my favorite.

while most people prefer rewritten as their toontown-revival-of-choice, i greatly prefer corporate clash and heres why.

General Quality of Life Improvements

ok so something to know about the original toontown is that it was... grindy. like really badly grindy. im talking miserable levels of grind. im talking TWENTY 4+ FLOOR BUILDINGS LEVEL OF GRIND. just so you guys know that is some bullshit if ive ever seen one. and look some people love the grind... I have limits man. and corpclach respects those limits and cuts down on the grind hard. like that specific task is just half the buildings. and its not just really long ones too everything is watered down to the point of being bearable, but not boring. you know?

task length aside there is a lot of other stuff too. from a gameplay perspective changing gags is suuuper easy and not at all convoluted, gives you a chance to really find a playstyle that works for you. plus you can actually unlock all the gags which was impossible in the OG toontown (but you will have to jump through some challenging hoops, and i mean just one singular challenging hoop). also the animation times are scaled back so timing is a lot faster. Yay. also gender isnt a limitor anymore. Double yay.

Visually too? mwah. it still keeps that old-school vibe without looking super crunchy. it feels like how I saw toontown as a kid. i know some people prefer the crunch but idk, i think balances exist.

The Managers.

ok look i know some people really dislike how cog focused corporate clash is but... i kinda dont care. because the managers are so awesomesauce. They add spice and strategization (??) to an otherwise fairly repetitive game. some of them are... more fun than others (HEAVY SHADE TO WITCH HUNTER) but i would not be surprised if someone came out liking a fight i consider unfun. regardless they're never boring.

corporate clash writing is uhm. a bit of a mess at the moment. i have faith though. I think the manager cog personalities are really solid for what they're trying to do. yes they are serious and brooding cogs, but they are also unique in their presentation. they're all different flavors of bad (villainous) and its AWESOME. I also just really like their designs.

The Community

This is more about Toontown as a whole, but I really love the Corporate Clash community. Full of creative and welcoming people, you can slot right in just about anywhere. I really love all the people I've met, there have been very few people I've come out of the fanbase disliking. It is extremely chill here, at least for modern fandom standards. Yeah there are bad apples, but that's just something you gotta live with. We're pretty good at blocking and moving on here.
